Chandigarh:
Haryana and Himachal Pradesh will sign an MOU to undertake a project for the revival of Sarasvati river. While Haryana has already identified and earmarked the Sarasvati channel course for which the work has been underway. Now Himachal Pradesh would also join hands.
Senior officials in the Haryana Sarasvati Heritage Development Board said 20 cusecs of water for the river would be provided by HP for which a project is being formulated on 400 acres of panchayat land in Kathgarh area for storage of water.
Union Jal Shakti Minister, Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat directed the officers of the states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh to ensure better coordination between the officers of both the states with regard to the project regarding revival of the Sarasvati River.
In the first phase of the project, two dams will be built in the areas of Haryana and Himachal.
Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Mr. Rattan Lal Kataria will coordinate with the officers of both the states with regard to assistance received from the Central Government for this project. He has directed the officers of Haryana Sarasvati Development Board and Irrigation Department to complete the technical drawing of the project by March 31, 2021.
The Haryana government has already undertaken the project to revive this ancient heritage of Sarasvati and pieces of evidence regarding flow of the Sarasvati River and other aspects related to it have been collected by ISRO and through various geographical researches. Officials say that the water of this river would cover a stretch of 200 kilometres in the state while the section between Adi Badri in Yamunanagar district and Kurukshetra has already become operational.
